The advances in the developmental viticulture within the context of climate change, the progress and innovative changes in winemaking, the new strategies for promoting wine products in the new economic conditions formed globally, the institutional changes and the new trends shaping the implementation right viticulture and winemaking practices are the objects of the 3rd International Symposium Ampelos 2013.

The 3rd International Symposium Ampelos 2013 features technical sessions regarding Viticulture, Enology, Institutional Framework and Culture. In the “Viticulture Session”, all the developments and trends in ecophysiology, developmental viticulture, genetics, grapevine varieties and clones, clonal selection, propagation material, alternative forms of farming, Precision Viticulture, structure and organization of modern vineyards and new trends in viticulture practices will be presented. The “Enology Session” features the developments and innovation in winemaking, the consumer trends and preferences, the new strategies for the promotion and marketing of wine products in local, national and international level and the contribution of the wine in consumers’ health. The third session features the global trends and prospects in the vitiviniculture sector, the competitiveness of the Mediterranean vineyard, the regulatory framework and the socio-economic impacts/repercussions of the Common Market Organization in E.U. member states. In the “Grapevine – Environment – Culture” session, the contribution of the vitiviniculture sector in the history and the culture of Europe, in the aesthetics and the protection of the Rural Landscape as well as in the development of local communities and of the tertiary sector will be presented.

Santorini constitutes from every perspective an ideal place for the realization of scientific symposia, particularly of the vine and wine. The natural and rural landscape of unparalleled beauty shaped by the contribution of everlasting vineyards with the traditional form of vines, the result of centuries of good viticulture practices, the high winemaking knowledge and technique with 3500 years of history which utilizes marvelously the local grapevine varieties cultivated in the rocky volcanic soils, the tradition and culture as well Caldera make Santorini unique.

The organizers of the 3rd International Symposium Ampelos 2013 invite the scientists, researchers, scholars of the vitiviniculture sector, grapevine growers, winemakers, professionals from all related fields and every friend of the vine and wine to present and share the results of the research, production experiences, knowledge, opinions and enjoy an inspiring and full of challenges symposium, in the early summer of 2013, in Santorini.
